How To Unblock A Slow Running Bathroom Drain?

July 20th, 2012 by

Slow running bathroom drains can be a source of headache at home. If you are to do the process of cleaning, you need to find the right tools and steps that will help you to unblock the drain properly. Most of the blockages especially in the shower occur due to the presence of hair and body oils. If you notice your shower draining slowly and the presence of nasty smell, it is a clear indication that the bathroom drain is blocked.

One of the steps you can take is to remove the small grate that is over the drain hole in the shower. In this way, you will be able to find out what is the source of the blockage. If it is not visible, you can proceed to use a piece of wire to find out the cause. The end bent of the wire should be hook shaped so as to be able to pull the gunk out of the drain.

If this proves hard, there are always other measures you can take to ensure that the drain is fully unblocked. Alternatively, you can also put a cup of baking soda and put it down the drain. It should be allowed to stay for a period of half an hour then add a cup of vinegar followed by hot water down the drain. These are steps that will help you to unblock the drain.
